Citations
Parking regulations are internal administrative regulations and do not replace state laws or municipal ordinances.
Failure to pay citations will result in the revocation of parking privileges. Once parking privileges are revoked vehicles parked on university property will be towed.
Towing Policy
Any vehicle in violation of parking regulations or any which are apparently abandoned may be towed and stored at the owner’s expense.
Accumulation of 6 or more paid or unpaid parking citations within a year will result in a tow warning. The tow warning gives the violator 48 hours to settle all charges or the vehicle will be towed from IU South Bend property even if the vehicle is not in violation of regulations. Accumulating 8 or more unpaid citations will result in tow without warning whenever the vehicle is found on IU South Bend property.
The person in whose name a permit is issued is responsible for all violations received on any car displaying that permit.
No valid tags displayed
A hang tag is required in ALL campus lots. The type of hang tag required for each lot may differ. All spaces reserved for Employee “EM” hang tag holders are marked with signs and the parking stalls use red paint on the pavement.
Improper Display of Tags
Only current, valid hang tags may be displayed. The hang tag must be hung from rear view mirror post or clearly visible in the upper center of the windshield. If the vehicle does not have a rear view mirror, the permit must be clearly displayed on the driver’s side of the vehicle dashboard.
Faculty Staff Area Violation
Students with an “ST” hang tag are not allowed to park in spaces/lots designated “EM”. These are for employees. All of these stalls are marked with red paint on the pavement.
Line Straddling
Vehicle may not park across lines in designated spaces. Taking up more than one parking space or prohibiting use of the adjacent space by another vehicle will result in this citation.
Parking in Posted or Marked Areas
This citation is issued when a vehicle is in a No Parking Zone, against yellow curbs, in front of a fire hydrant, within a fire lane, inside a yellow hash marked area, over a crosswalk, blocking a drive, blocking another vehicle, or within a Tow Zone. Vehicles receiving this type of citation are also subject to immediate towing.
Stolen Tag
Displaying a counterfeit hang tag, altered hang tag, fraudulently obtained hang tag (person does not qualify for the tag), or hang tag reported lost or stolen.
Handicapped Violation
Parking in a disabled space without an “D” hang tag, disabled placard or disabled license plate issued to the driver/occupant of the vehicle. Vehicles receiving this type of citation are also subject to immediate towing.
